Body of Rescue Team Member Recovered in HarborBy: Fox8.com ASHTABULA, Ohio - The body of a man that went missing in Lake Erie on Thursday morning has been recovered by a search team. According to Ron Pristera, Ashtabula Fire Chief, the body of Brad Ulman, 30, of Rome, Ohio, was found around 1:00 pm on Thursday afternoon in a harbor. Ulman was a member of the Ashtabula County Search and Rescue Team. That means the divers who were scouring the waters were looking for one of their co-workers. Ulman's sister tells Fox 8 News that her brother is also a volunteer firefighter with the Rome Fire Department. Officials were called to Ashtabula Harbor at 2:00 am Thursday for what was reported as a missing swimmer. The Coast Guard received notification from 911 that Ulman had failed to re-surface after diving into the water from a 26-foot vessel. He was apparently attempting to assist others wanting to climb aboard. Two Ashtabula-based Coast Guard boats and an HH-65C Dolphin rescue helicopter from Air Station Detroit were searching the waters around where Ulman was last spotted. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources and local fire department personnel also participated in the search. The Coast Guard says that a source told authorities that Ulman was not wearing a personal flotation device. |
