275 without power Saturday afternoonBy: Star Beacon - Stacy Millberg ASHTABULA — About 275 in the downtown area were without power Saturday afternoon after a transformer blew on W. 44th Street. Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. Area Manager Mark Jones said he received a call from the Ashtabula Fire Department at about 1:40 p.m. advising him of the outage. “The (Ashtabula) fire department called me and said their was a pole fire and a transformer came tumbling to the ground,” he said. Jones said he received a report of the outage right after the rain storm came through; however he was uncertain if the weather was the cause of the outage. The outage caused quite a stir in the area with traffic signals not working and roads being blocked off until power could be restored. Most customers had power restored by about 4:40 p.m. with the exception of about 40 customers who were still waiting for power at 6 p.m. Jones said crews were continuing to work so power could be restored to the remaining customers as quickly as possible. |
