Nobody injured in Ashtabula house fireBy: Shelley Terry - Star Beacon ASHTABULA — City firefighters were called at 10:33 p.m. Friday to a house fire on the west side of town. Three minutes later, when firefighters arrived at 5222 Nathan Ave., they discovered heavy smoke billowing from the one-story, wood-frame structure, according to the Ashtabula Fire Department’s report. Firefighters entered the home through the front door and proceeded down the hallway and into the bedroom with a waterline, according to the report. Within 10 minutes, firefighters had the blaze under control, the report said. No one was injured, the report said. The tenant said he left the house for a short time and when he returned, the house was on fire, firefighters said. Firefighters ventilated the house, while checking for hot spots throughout the structure, the report said. All firefighters cleared the scene 12:26 a.m. Saturday, the report said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, firefighters said Monday. Willard Snyder of North Strong Avenue in Ashtabula owns the home, according to the Ashtabula County Auditor’s Web site. |
